Sandown Racing Tips

Sandown racecourse is an oval course that hosts both Flat and National Hunt racing. The stiff course is uphill and horses race in a right handed direction. The 1 mile and 5 furlong course is a test of stamina with horses having an uphill climb to the finish line. Sandown offers racing all year round making it very popular for horse racing enthusiasts in the South East of England. There are an incredible 26 feature races over the Sandown race calendar with 3 listed races, the National Stakes over 5 furlongs, the Heron Stakes and the Whitsun Cup over 1 mile. In April the racecourse boasts both flat and National Hunt racing on the same card. This is one of only 2 UK courses that offer this through the year.

When betting at Sandown over the jumps its key to pick a strong galloping horse with stamina. A horses form is key to winning races. Keeping up the pace and finishing well on the incline to the winning post is what many horses struggle. The sprint course is on an incline all the way along the straight making it a balance of speed and stamina that goes on to win.

On the sprint course there is no draw bias whatsoever making it very fair for all horses. When looking at races over 7 furlongs and further, a lower draw is more favourable. This is due to the bend and getting on that inside rail before anyone else. Getting in a prominent position from the turn will give a much greater advantage on the home straight. Horses towards the back of the field will struggle to get the pace and pull through for the final stretch of the course.

Impressive jockeys at Sandown are Silvestre De Sousa, Ryan Moore and Andrea Atzeni. De Sousa takes the lead so far this year with 11 wins out of 34. With half as many races than the top 4, Atzeni has an impressive strike rate of 37% with 6 wins over 16 rides. Having an experienced jockey who knows the course well, is a great indicator when looking at Sandown horse racing tips.

Popular trainers at Sandown include N Henderson, R Charlton and R Varian. Varian is the one to look out for this year with 6 wins from 13 runners. Look out for our Sandown betting tips as we have had great results from our betting this year so far with much more to come.
