Ffos Las Racecourse is situated in Wales and is one of the 3 only racecourses in Wales. It’s a new racecourse that started in 2009 yet today has some top class feature races including the West Wales National and the Welsh Champion Hurdle. Similar to it’s sister welsh racecourses, Ffos Las is known for heavy ground with AP McCoy stating “there’s heavy, and then there’s Ffos Las”.
The course features both flat racing and National Hunt horse racing. The course direction is left handed around the oval racecourse. The course is mostly flat with 2 straight roughly 4 furlongs each. There are some minor dips in the course but nothing major to affect the race.
When betting on horses at Ffos Las theres not really any advantage to where the horse is drawn. There is no draw bias making it a very fair course to race and it’s literally the best horse that wins. Horses tend to run in the middle of the track no matter what the ground is like. Horses having a strong start along with a fast paced finish determines the winner here.
Popular jockeys on the track are Sam Twiston Davies and Andrew Balding. Both have great experience in the course and regularly get on winners at Ffos Las. There are 2 feature races on the course the West Wales National Handicap Chase and the Welsh Champion Hurdle. The West Wales National Handicap in January spans 3 miles and 4 furlongs while the Welsh Champion Hurdle is a 2 mile handicap in October.
